Mission Statement

The Child Abuse Prevention Center is committed to keeping children safe while breaking the generational cycle abuse through education, advocacy, counseling, and in-home parenting programs.

Our History

The Child Abuse Prevention Center originated through a collaborative effort of the Magnolia, Riverside, Raincross, Fontana, and Rialto Exchange Clubs under the leadership of Carl Lynch, the Center's founder.

The CAPC opened in 1997 after doing an initial needs assessment for the Riverside area. Startup funding was gifted by our sister center in Downey, California, and the Exchange Clubs.

In the early years of the Center, volunteer Parent Aides provided service to the families. These volunteers followed the National Exchange Club's Parent Aide Program. Parent Aides served as "friends" to client families and met with them once a week to talk and share parenting information based on personal experience and training provided by the Center Director.

The Center grew, we hired additional staff to coordinate services to families, developed a referral base, and connected families with other resources in the community. By 1999, trained Parent Advocates met with families twice a week and actively taught parenting skills, family management, and alternative types of discipline. Since 2000, the Center has actively sought new funding sources to develop innovative programs to expand the services offered to the community.

With our current rate of growth we anticipate increasing the size of our Board of Directors to support the expansion of programs that provide services in our community. We look forward to continuing to build additional resources with other community organizations. Our goal is to provide quality services to support families in raising healthy and happy children in Riverside County.

National Exchange Club Foundation

The Foundation coordinates a nationwide network of over 100 Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Centers throughout the United States. These centers counter abuse by utilizing the parent aide program, and provide support to families at-risk for abuse or where abuse has occurred.

Most Exchange Club Centers are active on the state and community levels with public awareness and educational campaigns on preventing child abuse.

Each center is governed by a volunteer board of directors and staffed by professionals who all have a great desire to strengthen America's families.
